in case you missed this

If you didn't read my most recent post, and haven't been watching the news OH WAIT THEY HAVEN'T REALLY MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT THIS, here are some links to more info about the raids, arrests and general intimidation of protesters and journalists by St. Paul police and National Guard troops at the RNC. As a former St. Paul resident, I am ashamed of the city I once proudly called home.

I don't know anything about the situation in St. Paul, but I am concerned about a trend that has police battling citizens. It seems like in many places the police are quite removed from the regular culture and do not seem to be working for the society as a whole. Maybe this isn't a trend, since it shows up in a Woody Guthrie song or two. But it seems to me a bad thing when essential institutions set themselves up with insider-outsider distinctions and do not have accountability to outsiders. Doctors, the military, teachers . . . they all are down this path to a point, and I think it's dangerous for us in each case.
